As the season of Advent is getting underway, so is the shopping season, exam season, performance season, and traffic season. It is so easy to get caught up in all the activities that happen in the next week or so, and miss the point of Advent. It is all to prepare ourselves to receive Jesus in a new way. The story of His birth will hopefully reflect the His birth in us. The funny thing is, you don’t have to reject all the activity to do this. You just have to go about it with a different attitude. As I spend every possible moment this week going to rehearsals, performances, and parties for every group I’m in, I could be overwhelmed with the amount to get done. But if I go, knowing that this is a chance to support my children, to give thanks to the groups and employers that are part of my life, and to rejoice in the gifts God has given us, then I turn it into a chance to grow in love and in faith. Exams? Those, too. Give your best effort, give thanks that God has given you the intelligence and talent to be where you are. Not so confident? Use it to motivate yourself to focus more next semester. Don’t lose these moments in the hustle and bustle. Glory in them.
