Do I Diet?

In Lent, one of the traditions is to fast.  There are many forms, but generally it means to refrain from food for a period of time.  It could be in between meals, not eating anything for a day, eating bread and water only until dinner, etc.  I read an interesting quote from Bishop Fulton Sheen – “The Church fasts,the world diets.  Materially, there is no difference, for a person can lose 20 pounds one way as well as the other.  But the difference is in the intention.”  In one, we focus on our bodies, our looks, our health.  In the other, we focus on our discipline, our dedication, and our reliance on God.  In one we lose weight, in the other we gain faith.
