Coming from the East

I just read the story of the wise men coming to visit Jesus and some interesting commentary on it.  Does it ever seem odd to you that these wise men come from so far away, drop off presents, and leave, never to be heard from again?  What’s up with that?   The wise men, who had no belief in the Jewish Messiah, were compellingly drawn to a star, and travelled long distances to find this new king. There was a verse quoted by St. Gregory, “a sign not for those who believe but for unbelievers, whereas prophecy is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.”  (1Cor 14:22)  I love all that this entails.  To those who believe, God communicates.  To those who don’t, God still communicates.  We can be drawn, no matter where we are coming from.  There are lots of things vying for our attention these days, but here and there we find something that draws us into something a little bit more.  Try and find it today.
