He already knows

It is hard to convince a pre-teen that their parent knows what is best for them.  It doesn’t matter what the parent says, the advice will not be taken, or will be taken grudgingly only to prove that it was wrong, because they didn’t really ask for help in the first place.  So, staying Matthew and Jesus’ discussion of prayer: it says “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matt 6:8b NAB)  That always bothered me.  Why pray, if He already knows?  Then, God gave me pre-teens.  Like above-mentioned pre-teen, the answer will not be heeded if the question is never asked.  If we can’t formulate the question or think we need to go to God with it, we won’t listen to the answer anyway.  Now I get it.
