Yesterday’s reading was about how Jonah went through Ninevah, for a day warning the city to repent or be destroyed by God, and they listened. He was only a third of the way through, and everyone repented. Even the king sat in ashes. I wondered how many people there were every day saying similar things, and how crazy must Jonah have sounded. Why did they listen? What made the difference? At some point, I think, we are ready to hear what we’ve known for a while. Different things will trigger it, but at some point that voice will ring through and help us see ourselves clearly, and we will have the power to change what needs to be changed. Listen.
