Off the Page

Palm Cross

And so we begin. Palm Sunday kicks off Holy Week, and the story starts to come off the page and into our lives. We are invited to participate physically, and hopefully get a little closer to the event. We started yesterday with palms in our hands. Jesus enters Jerusalem to crowds celebrating Him. Jesus enters as a triumphal king, and we are part of the crowds welcoming Him in. It’s a pretty good start. But almost immediately, the clouds begin to gather and the storm begins to brew. We read through the entire Passion story, multiple people are reading the parts, and we again become part of the story. Those of us who just received Him, reject Him soundly. We are called to participate to remind us that this story isn’t just from years past. It happens today. We are reminded that we can be incredibly fickle, and we are called to face what we do. We can finish here and wait for Easter, but we are given the chance to come ever closer this week during Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. We’re going in.
