Seeking

I write often about hearing God speak to us. I believe that He speaks not as some judge from the high heavens, but as someone very near and dear to us, whether we know it or not. I know that people get frustrated that God doesn’t “speak” to them, but it’s really just a matter of tuning your listening. I just read “We do not blindly seek God or wait for him to speak to us first, for ‘he has already spoken.” (Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis, 175) We aren’t just looking for something that doesn’t exist. God speaks to us daily, and if we read His word, we will start to recognize His voice. If we are pay attention, we will see His actions all around us. If we are looking, we will see that He has always been there. We may need someone to help us notice these things, but they are there.
