Sitting

I heard a wonderful quote yesterday from someone who is in a position to accompany a person who is dying, but is not allowed to share her faith because she is a caregiver in a medical facility, and he has not asked. Mother Theresa’s order has a stance of not trying to convert anyone to Catholicism. If it happens, it happens, but the goal is to help people to come closer to God in whatever way they can. I can’t find it to verify, but the quote I heard was to some missionaries who came to help her with the intent of converting people to Christianity. When she explained why they couldn’t do this, she said something to the effect of, “I believe that when they meet Jesus, they will recognize Him because He has been sitting next to them.” If that doesn’t sum up most of what I’ve said this last year, I don’t know what does. Even if we can’t say a word, may we be that person who helps someone recognize Jesus when they do come face to face with Him. May we all have someone in our lives who does that for us.
