Follow Me

The other day,  I was thinking about how the one thing that Jesus repeatedly tells people to do is, “Follow me.” I’m sure that we generally have an idea of what that means. Do what He would do, follow His example, follow His commands, or something to that effect. But then I thought, following someone usually means going somewhere. Yes, there is the symbolic or metaphorical aspect, but if we went with Jesus, where would we end up? I’m sure I will explore this more over the next few weeks, but one of the first places that He goes is to be baptized by John the Baptist. He humbles Himself, and as a result, baptism is changed from symbolic to miraculous. What He does transforms the entire situation. We’ll see it over and over again. Baptism isn’t just some ritual to remind us of something, it is a way that we can be touched by God in a most beautiful and intimate way. From there, His ministry starts, and so can ours. (Matthew 3-4)
