I am not the best gardener. I have to put plants by the kitchen sink so I remember to water them, and even then it’s a risky proposition. So, images of lush landscapes and fruitful vines are pretty miraculous for me. At one point, Jesus says, “I am the vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5). The banner that the retreat team made for this is full of fruit and tons of growth. I love that image. The vine is rooted in fertile ground and ample water. All we have to do is be attached to it, and we receive the benefit. Then, from us, others can come and receive more than enough and probably eventually be grafted in. It’s my kind of gardening.
