Don’t you hate when you call someone’s name and they don’t respond until you’ve called over and over again? And they’re only 10 feet away? It happens all the time – we’re focused on something else, the room is too loud, or we’re just not tuned into the voice calling us. In our next verse, the same thing happens with God. Samuel is sleeping and hears his name being called. He goes to Eli three times and says, “What?” Creepy, because Eli didn’t call him, but oh well, go back to bed, kid. The third time, Eli realizes that God is the one calling and tells Samuel to go back and answer this time, “Speak Lord, for you’re servant is listening.” (1 Sam 3:10) What a reminder. Just because we aren’t hearing God, doesn’t mean He’s not calling. The room may be too loud, or we may think it’s someone else. Listen again and answer. Speak Lord, I’m listening.
