As I’ve been going through the acts of mercy, I’ve thought it is a pretty easy time of year to put them into action. Coats for Kids has baskets everywhere, donation bins are on every corner, and there are plenty of charities available for that extra donation, since you’re in the Christmas spirit. All of that is just wonderful, but it’s that time in January or February when these acts of mercy will come with little fanfare. It will be those small moments when you see someone who is digging for that change at the checkout stand, or someone standing vulnerable before you needing dignity and shelter. This time of focus is really a reminder that all these needs are still there, just like last year and the year before. It’s a moment to recenter our vision so that we can see more clearly afterwards. May we all take advantage of the opportunity.

I love this. So important to remember that the poor need us all year long. Not just during the holidays.
