Have you ever thought about the difference between belief and faith? I generally use them interchangeably, but when I was asked to explain it, I realized that even though are closely related, they are really quite different. Belief is knowing that you can float on water. Faith is jumping in and laying down. You have to believe in something before you can have faith in it, but one doesn’t necessarily lead to the other. There are plenty of people who just won’t lie down in the water, no matter how much they understand that it is possible to float. We have to jump in. We have to take that “leap of faith” that we hear about so much. We have to lay down, float, and know that we will be held through the waves and through the calm. Belief is wonderful and such a gift, but the faith part is where it’s really at.
