With summer here, I will be on a lighter posting schedule. As we start our summer activities, I always look forward to the time away from activities, homework and schedules. My goal for my children is to hear them say, “I’m bored.” It is then that I know they are ready for the activity to ramp back up again. Somehow, that usually doesn’t happen until August each summer. It takes that long to do all the things we have stored up, or have waited for the heat of summer to start, and to get enough down time to shed all the layers of activity that we’ve collected. I think we all need times like this, whether we are on the school system schedule or not. Having a time to retreat, pull away from the distractions and reconnect with who we are, what we believe, where we have meaning, and where we are going is something that we are called to do. It’s actually a commandment, “Keep the holy the Sabbath.” It’s not just for God, but key for us. We need those moments to rejuvenate and restore ourselves and reconnect to the God who loves us. Then we’re ready for the activity to ramp up again.
