Hide and Seek

Yesterday I read, “the beginning of the path to finding God is awareness. Not simply awareness of the ways that you can find God, but an awareness that God desires to find you.” (The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything, James Martin, SJ, p. 51) Do you believe God speaks to you? Really speaks to you? Maybe “speak” is too specific a word, but I believe that God communicates with us every day. I find it intriguing that believing that it is possible is a key moment in finding faith. If you believe God desires to find you, if you believe that God desires to be a part of your life, if you believe that God finds you worthy of pursuing, doesn’t that change things a bit? It’s not that you are trying to please some deity who stands above you. It’s not that you are trying to define and buy into some alternate reality. It’s relationship. It always has been. You may be looking for Him, but I guarantee, He’s trying at least twice as hard to find you. Once you know that, you can start to see the signs. Pretty amazing stuff, really.
