It’s the most wonderful thing to watch a young child just start to walk on their own. They’ve been holding on to fingers, couches, tables, and even a toy as they walk, and finally they have enough balance and confidence to do it on their own. I even love watching them when I know they can walk, but they don’t yet know that they can. Standing just feet away, they’re stuck, mad, and demanding assistance. Finally, they get mad enough that they’ll come over to tell you about it.
I wonder how often God does this with us. He knows that we can do so much more than we believe. He knows that with His grace, we can do even more than that. God knows that we can find Him in the brightest and the darkest of times, but occasionally, He will take away all the supports we’ve been relying on and make us stand on our own. It may take a couple times, and we may not even realize that we have taken those first few steps. But gradually, we can rely on our new ability and move freely about our new lives.
