“God prepares us for what He has prepared for us.”
A friend told me about this phrase from a sermon, and I loved it. It’s different from the typical, “God won’t give you more than you can handle,” or even the “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.” While there is truth to both of them, this one was a beautiful reminder of times that I have had the blessing of seeing how God does this.
As I started my training to be a spiritual director, they gave us a list of characteristics that most spiritual directors have. As I read through, I could see how God had given me gifts that would be used mightily in this service. But, I also saw how I had been given challenges, trials, and even tragedies that had shaped me and the way that I see God’s hand, and those would make an even bigger difference. I had been given graces through difficult times, and I had been given graces through joyful, loving times. All of them were laid out in front of me. I never would have put them together otherwise. I had been well prepared.
