The Nativity (Gerard David)

Jesse Tree Day 21: Christmas

Today, as Jesus is born, we approach the manger. Paintings show the scene filled with light, peaceful animals, angels, shepherds, and of course, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. The inn has no room, but somehow, this stable has room for so many. It’s one of the miracles of Christmas. We are all invited to come.

The manger is so tiny, this baby is so small, but each one of us has a place right up front. It is waiting for us, full of peace, love, and grace. Once you see it, you can’t help but be drawn in. Eventually, the wise men will come bearing gifts, but we are welcome as the shepherds were: no charge for entry, no special accomplishments or honors needed. All that is needed is the desire to be near. Your space is available. Come.

Have a blessed and Merry Christmas.
