A friend of mine is a hospital chaplain and has found that he is welcome in all rooms regardless or religious affiliation, belief, or non-belief. One time, he walked in, and before he could really get started, the patient said, “Get out!” he tried to introduce himself and explain, but he was already known and adamantly kicked out. As he left in this state of complete failure, he heard God tell him, “That man is so angry. He needed to throw me out. Thank you for giving him that opportunity. Good job.” Wow. Let me look at some of my failures again.

I know this feeling and experience as a chaplain. Too bad it’s seen as a “failure” since this can often happen, usually because so many have had faith pushed on them for a long time. Chaplaincy is not about success and failure, it’s about being with people, listening and learning from them. We can’t always help, and that’s fine.
Great perspective. I’m sure that there are plenty of times that you are helping people get past a misconception of what faith means. Gold bless your work.
